Join us Friday, March 18 to hear Erika Garms present Building Brain-Friendly Workplaces

Time:  7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Location: University of St. Thomas Minneapolis Campus – Terrance Murphy Hall, Room TMH252

Description: Many organizations systematically/unknowingly reinforce distrust and threat, high turnover, low tolerance for change, and weak performance.  This presentation provides research-based explanations for this state of affairs, and turnaround suggestions that you can use tomorrow!  Discover how a few “big ideas” from neuroscience can be absolute game-changers when applied to the workplace.

What you will learn:

  • Why it’s no wonder staff and managers have a challenging time communicating and building trust amongst each other
  • Why we innately distrust anyone new to our team and discover what can be done to shorten the time it takes to combat this hard-wired reaction
  • How it is that mixed messages are so common and what havoc they wreak on morale
  • Where distrust triggers lurk at work, and how positive microinteractions can be used to counteract them
  • How mindset factors in to workplace culture, and specifically to leading change at work

About the speaker:  Erika Garms is a workplace effectiveness expert with a gift for translating powerful scientific theory to everyday workplace practice. She shows organizations how to cut through the hype of improvement methods, and how to apply simple, high-impact, brain-friendly practices to make workplaces both highly productive and sane.

She has been a consultant with management consulting firms -- local startups to global. She has also been a teacher, professor, internal organization development (OD) consultant and manager, and now runs a firm out of the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
