“Listening Through a Different Cultural Voice”

In this one hour workshop, coaches learn to listen through a different cultural voice, from a linguistic perspective, to decode articulation, intonation and grammar patterns that can give a deeper understanding into clients’ needs.  Through client stories, discussions and small group activities, we will explore an additional listening dimension.  We will look at a variety of ways to give appropriate feedback about how communication style may affect a job search or self- esteem.
In times of transition, clients are sometimes willing to revisit how their speaking skills may affect their job opportunities. When is the right time for accent coaching?  We will discuss neutral and supportive phrases for clarification and role play situations that can make a difference in your clients’ lives and careers.  After other issues are resolved, this can sometimes be the one area that is holding international professionals back from discovering themselves again.
Our Presenter:  Marlene Schoenberg is President of Accent Wisdom, a Twin Cities consulting firm that provides accent coaching to scientists, engineers and executives at Fortune 500 Companies.
